Enclosure integrity testing in Norway

IrPa AS tests rooms protected by clean agent and inert gas suppression systems, onshore and offshore, across Norway. We document retention time and find the leaks that make a room fail.

An enclosure integrity test, also called a door fan test or room integrity test, shows how long a protected room holds the extinguishing agent after discharge. If the agent leaks out too fast, the fire can reignite. The test is required at commissioning and recommended after any modification to the room.

What we test

Retention time

We calculate how long the design concentration is held above the highest protected equipment. The usual requirement is at least 10 minutes.

Leakage

We locate leaks in ceilings, raised floors, cable and pipe penetrations, doors and dampers, and show what must be sealed.

Pressure relief

We can calculate the required pressure relief vent area so walls, doors and ceilings withstand discharge.

Standards

We test to ISO 14520, NFPA 2001 and NS EN 15004, and can report to APSAD R13, AS 4214, VdS 2380 and VdS 2381. Reports are available in English or Norwegian.

Typical rooms

Data centres and server rooms, electrical and switchgear rooms, battery rooms, archives and museums, churches, and offshore modules for oil, gas and offshore wind. Recent work includes testing for Aker Solutions in an offshore wind project at Stord, and multi zone inergen systems in a wooden church.

Retention time explained

Retention time, or hold time, is the time from discharge until the agent concentration at the protected height falls below the minimum level needed to keep the fire suppressed. It depends on room volume, leakage area, room height, agent type and concentration. A door fan measures the leakage area, and the software calculates the retention time.
